God wants us to seek him with all our hearts. How can we look for a God that is present everywhere but unseen? He isn't a narcissist up in heaven demanding attention from us for his own pleasure. God knows that if we look to anything else for direction, purpose, or comfort, it will lead us blindly in this life and eternally in the next. When we look for God in creation, we will find examples of his goodness, laws, and power, but they fall short. God reveals himself in his Word, and more specifically, in the Gospel where we learn of Jesus’ love and forgiveness for the world.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
— Hebrews 12:1-3

This issue points readers towards the truth that while we may seek the Lord in our lives by faith, it is really Jesus who seeks us out and draws us near by the Holy Spirit.

God doesn’t appear when we look hard enough or deserve to see him. The Holy Spirit opens our eyes of faith to see him clearly!

God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.
— Acts 17:27

ask.seek.knock. | 4-week Bible study by Amanda Rose

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
— Matthew 7:7

In this Bible study we will learn how God invites us to come to him with confidence, trusting that he will open the right doors in our lives at the right time. It can be challenging to understand why God wants us to repeat the same prayers when he already knows our hearts. We simply have to take him at his Word and believe when he says he cares! Being persistent makes us more aware of our weaknesses and dependence on Jesus. Whether God says “yes” or “no”, we can accept any outcome as it says in Romans 8:28, "...in ALL things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." God's will is perfect. God's timing is perfect. Therefore I do not lose heart. "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" Romans 8:32

This issue’s interview is with Charonne and Natalie of OneHope27!

OneHope27 brings hope to kids and families involved in foster care in Milwaukee County through support and connection with the church and the community around them.
It is a heartbreaking thing for families to be separated, no matter the situation behind it, and there are a great deal of requirements for reunification. A large part of thier mission is seeing parents (primarily mothers in our case), become healthy and whole, and supporting them in getting back together as a family.

Their name is inspired by James 1:27, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself  from being polluted by the world."

It also comes from the concept that the local church and community are the hope for the kids and families involved in foster care, so we stuck the word “hope” right in the middle between the chapter and verse.
