Waffles in the Freezer

Swapping stories with my children many times will lead to reminiscing about that one day. With big smiles adorning their cute but also likely dirty faces, they get giddy with excitement. “Remember that one day that we had WAFFLES for EVERY MEAL!”

Probably not my proudest mom moment to be not only a part of that story, but the one responsible for it. But I can’t deny it. Those waffles are so reliable!

Beginning that memorable day, waffles were retrieved out of the freezer for a quick and satisfying breakfast. This is pretty standard around here, and we often make a 5x batch of waffles to stock up for quick use in the morning. Lunch time rolled around, probably too quickly as it seems to do. Leftovers were lacking. The bread was used up. So back into the freezer for another dose of wafflage--only this time slathered with some PBJ. You know, to spice things up. When dinner came upon us, not only were we running low on waffles in the freezer, we were running low on most contents of the fridge. Yet again, I found myself serving waffles. At least this time, fresh from the waffle iron.

Worse things have certainly happened in our house. And if I’m totally honest, having a day where everyone was excited for every meal was a refreshing change of pace. I really have nothing but praise for my reliable waffles. There on the regular. There when I need them. Pretty much, always.

Waffles (or anything for that matter) for every meal will feel redundant after a while, but the reliability of our Heavenly Father is a kind of redundancy we can rejoice in! 

He reminds us of his forgiveness in the morning…

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24

He provides comfort midday….

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:31-34

He assures us in the evening....

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:37-39

Life can be challenging. Certainly more difficult than having to resort to waffles for every meal! But whatever your situation may be, we can find comfort, forgiveness, and assurance of our heavenly home through our compassionate and loving God. 

May our Heavenly Father be as reliable for us as the waffles found in the freezer!
