Where do you turn during times of trouble? Do you find your best friend so you can vent? Or do you pull in and think?
Most humans have specific coping mechanisms ranging from healthy conversations to ingesting substances that dull the pain. We seek to soothe our pain and to find comfort in the face of adversity. We do not want to hurt.
A friend of mine going through significant pain said she read an author who said "pain is God's megaphone." It certainly does have a way of turning our thoughts to the only real alternative in troubling circumstance, the promises of God found in his Word.
Consider the promise of God in 1 Peter 3:9
"The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance."
All the promises in the Bible can be an anchor for your soul. You can go there with certainty.
Grab on and hold on for dear life! The Bible is filled with God's promises to those who believe in him. One day you will see the fulfillment of every one.
When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
