A new calendar means adding ‘2018’ to the growing list of things to remember.
Items like: where I left my phone, car keys, reading glasses, that old receipt, scheduling an oil change/ mammogram/friend’s birthday celebration/bill payment all while planning supper, phoning mother and squeezing in a quickie devotion and work out…
all these need to be done…
on my only day off.
Can anyone relate?
The pressure cooker called life accelerates a gerbil wheel of ‘doing’ which feeds a perception that only through more undertakings do we have purpose and value. In reality, endless “to-do” lists only generate more stress, feeding a self-righteous resentment not originating from the Creator.
Satan’s whisper joins the world and my own sinful flesh trying to convince me of inadequacy unless busy accomplishing great things.
Instead of fulfilled, I feel fragmented.
Here’s the GOOD news: we were never designed to “do it all;” (or “have it all;” or “know it all”).
Perhaps it is time for ME to get a grip.
Or, better put: remember that I am in HIS grip.
The firm grasp of the Lord’s limitless love is the only thing needful on days full of obligation.
Truthfully, it is the only thing needful each and EVERY day. Nothing provides greater comfort than being firmly in His hand. I am never alone as He holds me. My course is never lost as I pray for direction. The Lord has everything under complete control as he aligns my will to his.
Old sinful ways were drowned at baptism. Abiding in His Word and sacrament grows faith. I am his own redeemed child. Posting a fresh 2018 calendar, I am reminded of my newness in Christ.
12 more glorious months to watch His grace unfold.
52 two exciting weeks to serve the Savior.
365 days to declare unending thanks for his abiding love.
Many, many hours to spread the good news of Jesus’ birth, life and free salvation for all mankind.
What sweet joy is mine, to praise Him all New Year long!
